McCain Foods Limited is the largest producer of French fries in the world, and a major processor of other frozen food. The company has more than 50 production facilities in 13 countries, spanning five continents. McCain currently operates a state-of-the art potato processing facility in Easton Maine . McCain first began operations in northern Maine in 1975, when it purchased Taterstate Frozen Foods. McCain now employs about 600 people in the region.

In 1998 McCain Foods undertook a $70.8 million expansion of its existing plant in Easton , which more than doubled its production capacity.
In November 2000, McCain broke ground on a major new $100 million potato processing plant, in Easton . The new 260,000 square foot French fry processing facility created approximately 200 new jobs. The town of Easton will return 90 percent of the new property taxes paid by McCain for 25 years. The returned tax dollars will be used to help finance the expansion project.
